Lunch Discussion @Academy: Women in Foreign Policy – A Transatlantic Exchange

With
Julianne Smith, Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy and former Deputy National Security Advisor to Joseph Biden

On Tuesday, 14 May 2019 at 12:30 pm

At Robert Bosch Stiftung, Berlin Representative Office, Französische Straße 32, 10117 Berlin

Women working in foreign policy, national security or the broader policy area have made many strides in recent decades. Women now occupy some of the highest level positions in governments, think tanks, parliaments, industry, and the media on both sides of the Atlantic. They have also worked with their male counterparts to reduce sexual discrimination and harassment in the workplace. Despite this progress, however, women continue to face many unique challenges.

Please join us for a small, off the record luncheon discussion with Julianne Smith. Through her work at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), Julianne has both examined and highlighted the specific challenges that American women in national security encounter at the entry level, mid-career level, and more senior level. Julianne would like to share some of her findings and impressions from the other side of the Atlantic and ask a small group of German women to talk about their own experiences here in Europe. What challenges do German women in the field face today? How are women and men addressing those challenges? Where are the ongoing gaps? Where are the similarities with the United States?
