Der Sylke-Tempel-Essaypreis wird 2024 erneut von der Zeitschrift Internationale Politik (IP) und dem Netzwerk Women in International Security Deutschland (WIIS.de) ausgeschrieben. Er erinnert an die Journalistin, Publizistin und Mentorin Sylke Tempel (1963 – 2017), Vorsitzende von WIIS.de und Chefredakteurin der IP.
Das Thema: Was sind deutsche Interessen – und was sollte getan werden, um sie zu wahren?
Wie sieht Deutschland seinen Platz in der Welt? Worin bestehen seine Interessen in einem veränderten internationalen Umfeld? Was kann, darf, soll oder muss Deutschland zur Wahrung seiner Interessen tun? Wir freuen uns auf Ihren Essay!
Die Gewinnerin erhält ein Preisgeld von 1500 Euro sowie die Möglichkeit eines Junior Associate Fellowship am NATO Defense College. Der Text der Gewinnerin wird in der November/Dezember-Ausgabe der IP publiziert.
Das Junior Associate Fellowship am NATO Defense College versteht sich als Programm zur Förderung des Nachwuchses im Feld der Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik. Es richtet sich an Personen, die ihren Master vor nicht mehr als fünf Jahren gemacht haben. Das Fellowship geht über zwei Jahre und umfasst mehrere Online-Trainingsmodule wie z.B. das Schreiben für den Politikbetrieb. Ein jährliches Treffen aller Fellows (Senior und Junior) in Rom gehört ebenso dazu wie die Möglichkeit von Publikationen. Das Fellowship ist nicht vergütet, Ausnahme sind die Reisekosten für das Treffen sowie das Standardentgelt für Publikationen. Für erfolgreiche Kandidat*innen, die vor mehr als fünf Jahren ihren Master gemacht haben, wird eine Stelle im Senior Associate Fellowship angeboten. In diesem Rahmen erfolgt eine engere Anbindung an das College.

Women in International Security Germany (WIIS.de) and the journal Internationale Politik (IP) are announcing the 2024 Sylke Tempel Essay Prize. The prize honors journalist, publicist, and mentor Sylke Tempel (1963 - 2017), Chair of WIIS.de and Editor-in-Chief of IP, Germany's leading foreign policy journal. The winning text will be awarded 1,500 € and be published in the November/December issue of IP.
The topic: What are German interests - and what should be done to safeguard them?
How does Germany see its place in the world? What are its interests in a changed international environment? What can, may, should, or must Germany do to safeguard its interests? We look forward to receiving your essay!
The winner will receive prize money of 1,500 euros and the opportunity to be named a Junior Associate Fellowship at the NATO Defense College.
The Junior Associate Fellowship at the NATO Defense College is a program to promote young talent in the field of foreign and security policy. It is aimed at people who completed their Master's degree withing the last five years. The fellowship lasts two years and includes several online training modules, such as writing for the political arena. An annual meeting of all fellows (senior and junior) in Rome is part of the program, as is the opportunity to publish. The fellowship is not remunerated, with the exception of travel expenses for the meeting and the standard fee for publications. For successful candidates who completed their Master's degree more than five years ago, a position in the Senior Associate Fellowship is can be offered. In this context, there is a closer connection to the College.
